I want to tell you my Chronic Fatigue Story. Back in 1988/89 I did extensive traveling as a consultant and was installing/upgrading system equipment in field offices for a large insurance company. I was gone 42 out of 52 weeks, but home 2 days each week. I literally lived on planes and in hotels. It was fun, but I am glad it is over, too!
I got married in 1990 and within 6 months I was not feeling well at all. During that time I was an avid dancer of tap, jazz and ballet. I went to the doctor with a health form to join a health club. I figured I needed to exercise even more to gain more energy. Two weeks later when all the tests were in, the doctor took that health form and ripped it up. I was shocked! He said, not signing this, you need to rest you need to recover. Back then CFS was not known and only listed as Epstein Barr Virus. My titer count was off the charts. He said ‘I do not know how you are functioning or even staying awake. You need to make some serious changes in your lifestyle, eating habits and get lots of rest.’ He sent me home. My life in corporate america was almost impossible to deal with on a daily basis because I felt horrible so I ended up giving my notice and went home to sleep. I was in bed for 12 or more hours a day, cried alot and thought I was dying that is how bad I felt. When I had energy I made large pasta salads. Went to the library to find out all I could on CFS/Epstein Barr Virus. Getting out of bed and doing anything felt like I ran a 50 mile marathon. It was not a good feeling. Just to get up and go sit outside was daunting.
Within 6 months I was able to function to the point where I could do housework and take care of myself. I was worried that my husband wouldn’t be able to wrap his brain around what my body was doing to me and we were still ‘newlyweds’
After another 6 months I went back to work as a temporary secretary at the same company and confused many folks who said ‘you are a manager/consultant, what the heck are you doing as a secretary???’ Long story that I told and they just said ‘OH’. I found that when you have an illness like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome you do not appear sick and that makes it hard for someone who has never heard of it to fully grasp that you are sick.
I changed my diet, sorta changed my lifestyle and then ended up putting myself through Dog Grooming School. I was feeling pretty good at this point but still needed a minimum of 10 hours to make it through the day. I started a mobile Dog and Cat Grooming biz and was doing really well, then I found out I was pregnant (doctors were wrong on that one!) I had my biz for about 2 years then had to sell because I just couldn’t do it all and was afraid I’d land in bed for another 6 months or more!
I have been a stay-at-home work-at-home mom and thought I was doing really really good. I only needed 9 hrs min sleep to get through the day! That was amazing but people still had issues with me getting that much sleep. OH well!
Not long ago I found an appealing and delicious supplement that has helped me to take another step forward to a better quality of life. Besides, I know I don’t get all the daily recommended fruits and veggies and this supplement gives me a lot of what my doctors and body want me to eat to feel good!
