Recently, I had an iron infusion for my severely depleted stores, I was fairly skeptical about how much it would help, but of course it was needed so was more than happy to give it a go and see what happens.
For a week after the infusion I was very sick, my body aches were aggravated badly the first few day but that settled quickly. The fatigue following was quite extreme, as bad as I get, and I was like it for a week.
After such a reaction I was fairly negative and didn’t expect to improve from the treatment at all, but since the weekend I have been well, after having a remarkably good run on the weekend I find myself even more surprised to be doing incredibly well during the week. Today is the best I have been in a very very long time.
I have had good runs before, and they never last, so I remain uncertain that this will last, and have to keep in mind it could just be another good run and not a sign of permanent good health. I am despite these fears hopeful, and feeling very encouraged and inspired.
I find myself a little surprised by how much more I can get done in a day while I am well, I guess it is easy to forget what normal functioning feels like.
Signing off extremely happy and hopeful
Here are a few things I take to manage my symptoms, they are far from a cure but are what has helped me the most:
- Vitex – I take this for my endometriosis, it keeps my cycle regular and reduces the flow a little. In the least it has significantly reduced PMS
- Olive leaf extract – I tried this every day for a while as I had heard others had success with this. It was not my holy grail but I do find it useful when I feel like I’m getting sick. It’s hard to say if I would end up sick being a symptom of chronic fatigue, but if I take 10mls of olive leaf extract when I wake up on a day I feel this way I improve. The encouraging thing is since I have started doing this I have not yet gotten a cold……………yes I just touched some wood, just in case
- CoQ10 enzyme – This is a co-enzyme involved in energy production. From my education in nutrition I would call this a useless vitamin to take, from my experience I would say otherwise. It most certainly does not cure me, it does not give me bounding energy, but it does give me extra stamina so I can last longer than I should be able to (handy when travelling or at busy times like christmas)
- Crampbark with magnesium, zinc and B6 – this is a formula, it is hard to say what exactly helps in this, I have my doubts I need it all but on a whole this has been beneficial to take. It has reduced my muscle spasms a fair bit, it does not get rid of them but reduces them enough so that I don’t have body aches as bad after they are gone and the pain during is a bit less.
- Probiotics – I don’t need these all the time, but on a whole taking some occasionally has been beneficial for my health. I question if the benefit is better in a supplement than just eating yoghurt, but the inclusion of probiotics in some form in my diet has helped my health. This has not seemed to impact on my condition but better general health means I have better strength against my illness.
