I’m afraid I’ve been struggling lately; things have been up and down, and back and forth, without any real end in sight. I’m sorry for the lack of blogging, but I can barely stay awake when I sit down, let alone form [...] -
Novel Patient wrote a new blog post: Wheelchair Dance 3 weeks, 1 day ago
Tonight I wheelchair danced.
But that’s not where this story starts.
Once upon a time, I was afraid of dancing. In fact, for most of my life I was afraid of dancing. I never was super coordinated and I certainly lacked natural rhythm. I was convinced I couldn’t dance and that I looked stupid trying.
Later, [...]

Novel Patient wrote a new blog post: De-Stress 1 month ago
I don’t really know what to write. I’ve been kind of a writing funk. More precisely the stress of everything it getting to me. I’m in trouble financially, my doctors aren’t currently doing anything to help me get better, and I’ve been doing a lot of “being there” for my friends and family which I [...]

Novel Patient wrote a new blog post: Seeking an Accessible Vehicle 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I try to look on the bright side of things. But when I was evaluated last week for my new permanent wheelchair last week, it brought up some unexpected feelings.
I’ve been feeling this odd sort of guilt. Part of me feels like a failure and a quitter for finally working on getting a permanent and [...]

Novel Patient wrote a new blog post: Blogiversary: A Belated Thanksgiving 2 months ago
When you are sick all the time you often have to (sometimes unwilling) rely on the help and support of other people. And that is something that should not be taken for granted. So today, on the one year anniversary of this blog, I feel like I really have to thank all of you who [...]

Hello to everyone one there reading this blog,
I am visually impaired since birth and before the usual comments arise: No, glasses don’t help completely, contact lenses also don’t and are so uncomfortable to me that I don’t want them and the remaining impediment is still significant. I also live in a foreign country (the UK) [...]

anfaenger wrote a new blog post: So many ideas 2 months ago
I am assaulted by bunnies, plotbunnies: LoCoWriMo and NaNoWriMo have their unfinished stories which urge me to finish them and I have another idea for one: Down to earth, in which an upgraded human from the ’stations’ (space stations in the asteroid belt) and her son return to earth because their mother (or, well, grandmother) [...]

Robert Sloan wrote a new blog post: Second New Theme – Dark Marble 2 months ago
I like this one. A little closer to the Science Fiction feel than Fantasy, but could easily also be one of those mystical trancy special-effects moments in the story.
Most of all, at least a little space shows between paragraphs.
The title doesn’t get cut off by the text block. While the preceding Cloudy Sunset was pretty [...]

Robert Sloan wrote a new blog post: New theme! 2 months ago
Lauren just emailed me the link to how to change themes, so now my boldly middle aged male sensibilities are satisfied with something that looks –Robertish.
I love landscapes. I love nature. I draw and paint almost as much as I write and almost as well as I write.
So naturally finding one that didn’t either look [...]

I did a retelling of Cinderella. Feel free to check out my user page about it. http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/543407
To be completely honest, saying I wrote every day is an exaggeration. I wrote every day I intended to write, except for my two very sick days. But it was close enough to count as [...]

Here I sit at 27 years old with an auto-immune nerve disorder, and though I am quite creative, it isn’t always easy for me to do things and keep up with them. I exercise regularly, attend a local business school, and I also somehow find time for hobbies and friends.
So, this year was my very [...]

So, here I am at 31 “starting over”. I need a job or a career or something. I need a future. Except that I don’t get a future. I get to get sicker and sicker until I die. No one will hire me because of that fact. Not even [...]

I am a zebra. In medical schools doctors are taught that when they hear hoof beats think horses, not zebras. This is well and fine if you are a horse, but I’m a zebra. You see, zebras are people with rare diseases. In 2006 I was diagnosed with Cyclical Cushing’s Disease. It is a a [...]

I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and orthostatic intolerance. CFS is an illness that tends to get worse unless it is diagnosed and you learn to stop trying to live your life the way other people do and start taking care of the illness. There are people who have it who can lead completely normal lives, [...]

I have asthma, severe major depression and Borderline Personality Disorder. All of these have been kept well in control by medication for some four years now. I no longer have tantrums, nor do I feel suicidal, nor do I wheeze for air. However, I still get tired easily, dislike being in large crowds for more [...]

Robert Sloan wrote a new blog post: Nanowrimo 2009 – Beating My Best! 2 months ago
Hi. My name is Robert. I write novels, usually fantasy, horror or science fiction novels with a lot of action in them, deep themes, interesting characters and imaginative settings. I’m a firm believer in Escape Fiction. The only people who are against escape are jailers.
I’m well aware the great adventure and height of my life’s [...]

Robert Sloan wrote a new blog post: Who am I? 2 months ago
I’m an armchair achiever. Nature evolved me to sit still and write fat fantasy novels along with horror and science fiction. Big on imagination, limited in mobility and body energy, there’s a lot more to me than the pain.
I’ve had a long journey to get to this point but in 2010 I’m going to take [...]
